Immediate alcohol reforms a positive step

The NSW Government’s announcement today that it has brought forward specific reforms for small bars and takeaway alcohol sales in time for the festive season is a sensible step to help small business operators in Sydney and across NSW, peak industry body Alcohol Beverages Australia has said.

“We are pleased the government has enacted these much-needed changes as quickly as possible,” Alcohol Beverages Australia Executive Director Fergus Taylor said.

“It shows the government has listened to NSW business owners who have been suffering and to Sydneysiders and visitors who have been urging it to wind back these changes ever since they were brought in.

“We’re also encouraged by the minor relaxation of the lockout laws which will take effect in January but we urge the government to look at additional measures, including changes to policing and public transport within the lockout zone, to help create a safer and more vibrant Sydney.”

Alcohol Beverages Australia is the peak industry body created to highlight the positive social, cultural and economic contribution of alcohol beverages in Australia, and promote, explain and defend the legitimate rights of the industry and the 15 million Australians who drink responsibly. devsite.alcoholbeveragesaustralia.org.au
